APC Primaries: Akure South/North Constituency Had No Election As Thugs Disrupted Proceedings – Lawmaker

Lawson Alade, the lawmaker representing Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency and an aspirant in the APC primary has requested the party to declare the primary election null and void because no election was held.

This was revealed by Alade while speaking to journalists in Akure, the state capital, following the disruption of the primary election by thugs who rented the air with gunshots.

The lawmaker claimed political thugs disrupted the process when he was already winning the primary election.

Alade who said, “It was a sad day in Akure election” stated that youths in Ondo State, especially, Akure North/South federal constituency were not happy with how things turned out during the election held at Ade-Super hotel.

The lawmaker who won the bye-election in the constituency two months ago narrated that hoodlums invaded the venue of the election while the sorting of votes was ongoing.

Alade added that “we were coasting to victory and all of a sudden, everything just went south.

“As you can see, my agent was beaten and taken away only to find him almost wounded, even me, I had to run for my life to avoid a stray bullet. As we have it, there was no election and we are hopeful to have a re-run soon."

The lawmaker further stated that one of the aspirants was complaining about his name not being on the ballot as it was in the bye-election, so he has been very furious about the whole process.

“We decided to go on as well and at the end of the day, the thugs just in. Putting it into consideration now, the rule of law, the election is now inconclusive and we are hoping that the party leaders come up, we will have another date.

“Like you understand the bye-election, the margin was clear, I am loved by my people, I have just been there for two months, so I am to go back.

“My followers should remain cool; we are extremely peaceful youths, and as you can see, this is my agent, but we are all calm, hopeful, and confident that God will be on our side.”
